Ghost Adventures Recap: “Black Moon Manor”
Original Air Date (Travel Channel): Friday October 12, 2012
Season 7 Episode 5

Location

This episode takes us to rural Buck Creek Township in Indiana.

History

Black Moon Manor is one of the oldest homes in the township of Buck Creek, Indiana. Built in 1859 by the Eastes family, many legends and stories have been attached to the building. It is rumored that a doctor by the name of Dr.Harvey treated several hundreds of people with smallpox after he turned the home into an infirmary. It has also been speculated that this doctor introduced and spread the disease to further his career. Another legend told is that during the 1930’s, a woman committed suicide by jumping 70 feet down into a well that runs underneath the house. It has also been said that the 5 year old daughter of the Eastes family, named Rachel, died in the house.

The current owner of the house, Matt Speck has his girlfriend share a story about the time she gave a tour of the home to some friends. When she walked into the house, she felt overcome with raging emotion and started cussing up a storm. She then felt something grab her back and she was left with a large scratch. They provide us with a photo of this bright red scratch. Janie O’Daniel, a paranormal investigator, shares with the crew her experiences investigating the house. She says that this is the only place out of 300 plus investigations that she has done, where she has been scared out of. She has seen shadows come out of a bathroom, door handles shake, and the floors vibrate. Another paranormal investigator by the name of Jeffrey Poe backs up the claim that Black Moon Manor is haunted by showing a videotape capturing a rocking horse rock all by itself during an investigation that he did in 2011. What is eerie is that just as Jeffrey starts to play the video, the computer suddenly shuts down.

Ghost Adventures crew likes to back up claims with evidence, so they head to the local library to meet with two historians after a quick jaunt to the Eastes Cemetery. They research the stories and legends and can only determine that the little girl by the name of Rachel possibly died in the home. The wild stories of hundreds of deaths in the home and the mere claim that the home was an infirmary are inconclusive.

The crew head over to a former tenant of the Black Moon Manor named Matt Gephardt. He tells them that he often heard disembodied conversations, footsteps constantly coming from the second floor, and the fact that one time a friend of his felt like he got punched after mocking the ghosts. Zak shares with him some of the old stories and legends. He also shares with him the fact that a little girl named Rachel died in the house. Matt surprises him when he tells him that when they first moved into the house, the name “Rachel” was scrawled all over the walls of the house.

The Lockdown

Base camp is set up in a tent outside with Billy Tolley watching over 4 stationary night vision cameras placed around the manor. Aaron is sent in alone first. Zak radios over Aaron’s walkie talkie a message to the spirits in the house and as Zak is talking. Aaron begins to hear footsteps upstairs. Aaron begins to provoke the supposed evil spirit:

Aaron: “Maybe the legend’s true, or the legend is false. I don’t know. You’re not showing me sh*t.”

After this statement, Aaron and the crew inside the base camp all hear distinct whispering in response to Aaron. Zak tells Aaron to head upstairs, and as he gets out the Mel Meter her hears a woman say:

Disembodied voice: “No one’s up here.”

With these clearly heard disembodied voices, Zak attributes the clarity to the fact that the well that runs underneath the house as a geomagnetic source of energy that these spirits can draw off on. Zak can resist no longer and joins Aaron in the house, ready with the SB-7 device.

Zak: “Is there anybody in here that wants to talk to us?”
SB-7 device: “There are some.”
Zak: “Can you come and communicate with us?”
SB-7 device: “Yes, I am.”

Zak then feels something touch his hair.

Zak: “If there’s a spirit here, talk to us.”
SB-7 device: “Did.”

Both Zak and Aaron begin to feel uncomfortable. Zak is getting a bit too close to the edge of the well and Aaron asks Zak to step back as the SB-7 device warns:

SB-7 device: “Evil.”

Zak gets out the Mel Meter and watches as it continuously spikes off the charts. The SB-7 device once again speaks:

SB-7 device: “A demon.”

The Mel Meter then shows that the temperature is 66.6 degrees, the sign of the devil. Zak begins to ask:

Zak: “Are you making this thermometer to 66.6 degrees?”

SB-7 device: “Yes.”

The Mel Meter is lighting up non-stop and Zak tells us that he has never experienced this device respond so highly.

Zak: “What color are you making this thing light up?”

SB-7 device: “It’s green.”

At this point, Zak feels like his body is being drained of all it’s energy and can barely stand up. He leaves the house to regain his strength for a while. Aaron leaves for a small break as well, and they leave Nick alone to investigate the upstairs bedroom. Zak requests that Nick go through the small attic opening to investigate the hidden area. It takes an insurmountable amount of gumption for Nick to finally crawl into the room and ask some questions. He captures no E.V.P.s but feels like it was very difficult to breathe in the small room.

Aaron and Zak have recovered and rejoin Nick inside of the house. Zak begins to take some full spectrum still pictures and notices that in a couple of shots pointed toward the staircase, there appears to be a bright mass and a mysterious dark mass. As the crew wraps up the investigation and leaves to review footage in the tent, Zak returns to the house and repositions some of the cameras and hears something being thrown in the room. Aaron and Nick return to the house to look for what was thrown, and believe that it was a piece of wood that had been unexplainably thrown.

Quotable Quotes:

Zak: “Someone’s living here. They don’t breathe and they don’t have a heartbeat. Something lives in this house.”
Aaron: “The past.”
Zak: “Yeah. They’re trying to tell us what happened in the past. And once they do, then they may be able to rest.”
